Our team of Lanna Dog Rescue wants to improve the situation of the stray dogs in Chiang Mai / northern Thailand. Sick and destitute dogs wander the streets, are neglected, poisoned or dumped in temples. When they get sick, they often die painfully. Something should be done about stray dogs and they should be given a life. We are ready to accept responsibility to try to manage the stray dog problem in a kind and humane way. We organize:

- sterilisations to avoid further offspring
- medical care / vaccinations
- rescue for dogs in need
- finding new homes for dogs

The Arabian Caliph Ali once said:
"If one dog is hungry in the Kingdom, I am responsible."

In the same token, the first precept of Thai Buddhism is:
"I undertake not to kill any living thing."

Thus, responsibility for all living beings must be taken.

We want to help the stray dogs in Chiang Mai and encourage a positive attitude towards animals.

Our team & Our objectives

There are so many abondoned and homeless dogs in Thailand that we would greatly appreciate if you could be a part of the solution by adopting one of these adorable dogs. We take care of a wide range of puppies and dogs in different colours, and of all ages and sizes. All of them are longing for a warm and loving home, and have much love to offer to you and your family. In general, these mixed-breed dogs are better suited to the climate of Thailand and are highly intelligent, proving to be healthy, excellent companions. Each one has a unique personality and we are sure you won't regret to provide a home for one of them.

We are looking for responsible owners, preferably in a family environment, and with a garden. We do not want that our dogs to end up in a kennel, cage or at a chain, or stay alone on a regular basis. Owning a dog is a long-term commitment, as dogs can live 10 to 15 years. We only offer sterilized dogs for adoption. If the dogs are too young for this operation, the new owner should agree to arrange the sterilisation at the age of sixmonths, and we are willing to pay the costs of the sterilisation.

We do not charge any fees for adoption, however, donations for our expenses are welcome, and will be used to help other dogs. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please contact us.

WAITING FOR A NEW HOME

Serendipity in CHIANG MAI :

The Jazz Night held for Lanna Dog Rescue on 23rd March 2007, organized by Siri and Michael Waltham, proved to be a great success, with music fans filling a room at the Chiang Mai Gate Hotel to capacity. This function not only provided an enjoyable time for all the guests, but also raised enough funding to plan mass sterilization at Payap University, Chiang Mai.

This mass sterilization program was held at Payap Keawnawarat campus (opposite McCormick Hospital)

from 09:00--15:00 on Saturday 28th April 2007.

"My name is Maggy and I was rescued together with 34 other dogs from a meat transport truck. Our destination was a slaughter house - can you imagine that? In the north and northeast of Thailand, there are still villages where dog meat is eaten. Most of us were in terrible condition, as you can see in the photo...
